As we continue our mission to advance the geospatial and space sectors nationally, we are excited to announce an opportunity for two GCA Members to join the GCA Board and contribute to the organisation’s leadership.
Our aim is to attract high-calibre candidates who have a proven track record of good governance and are highly respected in the circles in which they are known, and whose views will be respected by the most senior levels of government. Nominations are open to both individual voting members and employees of organisational members. If you are an employee of an organisational member, please ensure that you have received your employer’s agreement to join the GCA Board if your nomination is successful.
The criteria for suitable candidates are summarised as follows:
Criterion 1: Governance Competencies and Experience: Demonstrated strategic governance thinking and approach, clear understanding of director duties and responsibilities, strategic planning and foresight, board etiquette, and experience in board decision-making.
Criterion 2: Director Experience: Experience as an executive or non-executive director in medium to large organisations; experience on a commercial entity or on medium to large not-for-profit boards (including a membership or peak body).
Criterion 3: Industry Knowledge & Experience: Passion for and knowledge of the geospatial and/or space sectors, including experience in priority end-use areas.
Criterion 4: Compliance, Risk, Legal: Sound financial literacy, knowledge of legal frameworks, and an ability to lead compliance, and establish resilience and risk management systems. Understanding of the board risk appetite and framework, as well as the ability to set the risk culture and ensure compliance within the risk framework.
Criterion 5: Specific Skills and Experience: Competencies in the science of geospatial, as well as strategy development and implementation; executive leadership experience; an industry profile; thought leadership; and Australian residency.
Criterion 6: Director or Governance Qualifications: Graduation from or current study towards an Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD), Governance Institute of Australia (GIA), or equivalent course is highly desirable.
