GCA turns TWO!

GCA turns TWO!
Today marks two years since the formation of the Geospatial Council of Australia (GCA), and what a journey it has been! Thanks to the support and dedication of our members, we have achieved remarkable milestones, strengthened our industry, and built a thriving geospatial community.

Here’s what we’ve accomplished together in the past year:
🟢 Membership Growth: A 20.4% increase in individual members and a 32.5% rise in organisational memberships, reflecting our expanding influence and value to the industry.
🟢Events: Hosted 44 events nationwide, with our national conference Locate24 welcoming over 1,000 delegates – the largest attendance in the event’s 10-year history!
🟢Advocacy: Successfully launched the Economic Impact of Geospatial Services in Australia report at Parliament House, highlighting geospatial’s projected $689 billion contribution over the decade to the economy by 2034.
🟢Professional Development:

  • 229 applications for our Young & Emerging Professionals Mentoring Program, more than doubling participation from the previous year.
  • 216 skilled migration assessments completed, up from 165 in the previous year.
  • 17 new Level 2 and five new Level 1 Hydrographic Certifications awarded.
  • 156 accredited professionals now listed on the National Engineering Surveying Certification Register.

🟢 Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Initiatives:

  • Policy Implementation: GCA launched its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Policy, establishing governance principles to guide our activities and ensure a culture of inclusivity at all levels.
  • Inclusive Employer Index Survey: In partnership with the Space, Spatial & Surveying Diversity Leadership Network (SSSDLN) and the Diversity Council of Australia (DCA), we participated in the Inclusive Employer Index Survey. This initiative provided valuable insights into the state of diversity and inclusion within our industry, highlighting areas of progress and opportunities for improvement.

🟢Partnerships:

  • Partnered with Surveyors Australia to enhance the National Engineering Surveying Certification Program, strengthening professional standards.
  • Signed an MoU with the UK’s Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES) to advance geospatial standards and professional excellence internationally.
  • Partnered with NGIS with a shared commitment to advancing the geospatial industry and creating positive change.

🟢Building for the Future: Initiated the development of a Member Forum, set to launch in the next quarter, providing a dedicated space for industry discussion and collaboration.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the passion and commitment of our members. Your involvement, feedback, and support drive GCA forward.

Thank you for being part of our journey. Here’s to another year of growth, collaboration, and success!
