Mentoring

Geospatial Council Mentoring Program – Applications are now open!

The Geospatial Council Mentoring Program is designed to support and guide young professionals in the geospatial industry to achieve their career goals and develop their skills and knowledge. This Program offers a unique opportunity to connect mentees with a mentor who can provide valuable career insights and advice.

Our mentoring program was formerly known as the SSSI YP National Mentoring Program and has been successfully operating for five years. Over this time, the Program has had more than 350 mentors and 461 mentees participate.

We are pleased to announce applications for the 2023 Geospatial Council Mentoring Program are now open. The Surveyors’ Trust is proudly sponsoring the program in 2023.

About the Program

Participants are welcome from all areas of geospatial, and professionals of all levels, experience and backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

You can participate as either a Mentor or Mentee:

  • Mentors are experienced professionals who are passionate about sharing their expertise and helping the next generation of leaders in our industry.
  • Mentees may be a student or an emerging professional who is looking to advance their career or develop specific skills.

Mentoring is a two-way process, as the mentee often shares a new perspective to the mentor, and the mentor often learns more about themselves through the process.

Your commitment
You will need to commit at least five hours total over the course of the 3-month program. During this time, you will have five topics to explore and discuss. One topic will be compulsory and participants will choose the remaining four from a specified list. Topics are based on building “soft” skills (such as leadership, effective communications, personal branding etc) rather than technical skills.

Mentees will be required to answer some questions at the end of each meeting, highlighting key discussions and outcomes.

You will also have the opportunity to participate in networking sessions during the program and an online “graduation” ceremony will be held at the completion of the program to celebrate your success!

Who can apply?
Applications are only open to those living in the Asia Pacific region.

Application is free for all individual members of the Geospatial Council or an employee of a member organisation. A fee of $55 is applicable to those wishing to participate in the Geospatial Council Mentoring Program and are not financial members. This fee covers the administration costs associated with participating in this program.
