Wishing ASA’s, Geoffrey Smith, good luck for Australian of the Year

Wishing ASA's, Geoffrey Smith, good luck for Australian of the Year

We are delighted to share that one of our own, Geoffrey Smith, has been recognised as a finalist for the prestigious 2025 Australian of the Year award. Geoffrey is the co-founder of Australian Spatial Analytics (ASA), a remarkable social enterprise delivering geospatial and engineering services while making a profound impact on our society.

Geoffrey’s work exemplifies the power of the geospatial industry to drive innovation and inclusion. At ASA, 80 per cent of employees are neurodivergent, many of whom have faced long-term unemployment. Through inclusive practices and workplace support, Geoffrey has created opportunities for these talented individuals to contribute meaningfully to our field, while addressing critical skills shortages in technology.

His leadership and vision for the future of our workforce, including a goal to employ 1,000 people by 2030, inspire us all. It’s wonderful to see the geospatial industry gaining recognition on a national stage, and I encourage you to join us in cheering Geoffrey on as the Australian of the Year announcement is broadcast live this Saturday, 25 January, at 7.30 pm AEDT on ABC TV and iview.

On behalf of the Geospatial Council of Australia, we wish him the very best of luck
