Call for members to support ANZSCO submission

Members of the Geospatial Council of Australia are invited to participate in providing feedback for the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) Round 2 submission.

ANZSCO plays a crucial role in defining and categorising occupations within the geospatial industry. While ANZSCO has had some minor updates, it largely describes the original 2006 version, which was based on the 2001 labour market.

Through the Round 2 submission, the Geospatial Council aims to ensure that the geospatial sector’s specific needs, expertise, and emerging trends are accurately reflected in the classification framework. By participating in this process, we can collectively shape the future representation of our sector’s workforce.

Updates to the classification will be reflected progressively in official labour market statistics from August 2026, including Labour Force time series to improve visibility of new and emerging occupations.

This significant initiative presents a unique opportunity for the geospatial industry to be strongly represented, and we highly encourage your active involvement. The Round 2 consultation process is reviewing sectors that cover geospatial occupations across the following Focus Areas:

  • Construction
  • Spatial, surveying and mapping services
  • Science Technicians

To facilitate this feedback collection, members are invited to provide their insights, recommendations, and perspectives on the current ANZSCO classification as it relates to geospatial occupations.

Please send your feedback to the Executive Manager – Workforce & Strategy Danika Bakalich by COB Friday 4 August 2023.
