Changes to traffic management requirements on arterial roads

Changes to traffic management

From 1st February 2023, in accordance with Regulations 7 and 18 of the Road Safety (Traffic Management) Regulations 2019, anyone placing traffic control devices on roads under the coordination of Head, Transport for Victoria (formerly Vicroads / Roads Corporation), such as the orange symbolic worker sign, cones and bollards, needs to be appropriately accredited in accordance with the Traffic Management Reform (TMR) program.

The above requirements relate to the erection of any devices regardless of whether the client is the Department of Transport or a private entity. A map of declared roads can be found on Department of Transports website here.

After February 1, anyone wanting to erect traffic control devices on these roads will be required to engage a traffic management company accredited for the relevant road category to implement an approved MOA and traffic management plan. A list of accredited companies is available on the VicRoads website found here.

We support any initiatives that improves the safety and wellbeing of our members and we will continue our dialogue with the Department of Transport to explore all options that provide a pathway for accreditation for members.
